Finding Balance Update

A few months ago, I discussed my goal for the year.  I wanted to find balance in everything.  Work, exercise, health, relationships, etc.   Now that we're officially halfway through the year, I figured it was time to share an update on this journey with you.

One thing I learned very quickly is that you are very rarely going to hit the exact balance you are looking for in every category on the same day.  That would just be too easy, ha!  I may not find balance in all the categories I wanted on a daily basis but I have found a better balance overall and that I am very proud of.

I am currently working on balancing this out a little bit more.  I have been working 8-5 for 6 years and honestly that schedule just never felt right.  My mornings were always rushed and behind.  Not getting home until 5:30 made for a rushed workout and late dinner.   I just felt like this wasn't my ideal schedule.  Jared and I were talking one day a few weeks ago about how nice it would be if I could change up my work schedule.

Luckily, I have the best boss in the entire world.  Seriously - the best.  I told him I wasn't feeling as productive as I needed to be at home and work with the 8-5 schedule so we drafted up two new ones for me to try.  I am currently working 7:30-4 with a half hour lunch 4 days a week and keeping my one day off to work on our businesses from home.  Soon I will be rotating back to a 5 day a week schedule with shorter days and two half-days instead of one whole day off.  I will be deciding after a few weeks of that which one I'll be sticking with.  I'm not sure which one I will like better but I do know one thing I love - 7:30 start times & half hour lunches!

8 gave me a little too much time in the morning.  I was always trying to do one more load of laundry, put away dishes, etc. and would always be running behind.  Changing to 7:30 has allowed me to get up and start my days earlier, have a short workout if I want (I do my long ones after work now) and be one of the first to the office while it's still really quiet.  This has worked wonders for my productivity at work.

Half hour lunches have been great too!  I don't live very far from work so a lot of days I would go home and just work on laundry, clean or just relax but an hour almost got me so out of work mode that I didn't want to go back.  Taking half hour lunches allows me to run a few errands, walk outside a bit, read or just eat and relax without getting me out of work mode.  I'm interested to see how I like the other schedule I'm going to try!  I'll keep you all posted on which schedule I end up choosing!

I have definitely found a better balance here but I am still working on it as well.  I have really started listening to my body.  Eating when I'm hungry, not eating when I'm not.  Exercising most days but taking time to just unwind with a book or a few minutes of quiet if I feel like that is what my body is craving.   This has helped so much!  Instead of forcing a schedule on myself, I'm letting my body lead the way.

If you follow me on Instagram, you know that I've really changed up how I'm eating.  I gave up meat over two weeks ago and have yet to miss it.  I'm not saying I will never eat it again - I'm just not interested in it right now. I've mentioned several times that my body just doesn't seem interested in meat so I finally decided to give it up and listen.  I have noticed that heavy carb meals and dairy really upset my stomach as well.  It's amazing how much better I feel already with the few changes I've made.

I'm planning posts to share my specific morning and nighttime routines but I have finally found some routines that are working for me.  One of my favorites is taking 10-15 minutes in the evening to pack my lunch & snacks for the next day, sit out my vitamins and lay out my work clothes.  This has been a game changer for me in the mornings (especially now that my mornings are earlier).

I have failed miserably on my planned blog posting schedule due to my planner designs taking over my life (I say that in a good way - but seriously I haven't had time for much else) but I am working hard to get those back on track.  I was so busy that I felt like all I was posting were impersonal recipes and fashion posts and I didn't like that I wasn't able to commit the time to sharing personal posts in there as well so I just took a break for the most part.

I have done a much better job of staying on top of pedicures (in-grown toenails anyone?!  they are the worst & regular pedicures keep mine away!), facials (these are changing my skin and life honestly - separate post to come on this soon!) and just self-care in general.  I'm still not where I need to be on this but I have definitely made some progress!

Relationships/Life in General

I am not doing what I need to do as far as reading my bible & devotional.  I think I need an awesome devotional that I will really dig into to help with this.  I'm ordering Seamless today!  I posted on Instastories that I was thinking of giving it a try and received so much positive feedback about it!  I can't wait to start it!

I have been failing on reading in general but I'm going to work on really adding that back in the rest of the year.

I am working on being more present in time spent with family and friends.  As a blogger and new business owner, social media is a huge part of my life at the moment but I am getting really good about walking away when necessary - especially on the weekends.  I'm also working on staying focused on enjoying those moments instead of worrying about my to-do list.

Speaking of my to-do list, I have started trying to focus on just getting at least a handful of things done each day and picking something major to tackle about once a week.  This seems to be really helping!

To sum it all up, my balance is getting better but it still has a long way to go.  Below are the things I still need to work on and will update you on again at the end of the year.

- Streamlining my schedule & getting rid of activities that do not bring me joy and aren't absolutely necessary.  I can't be part of everything and I don't even want to try.
- Continuing to listen to my body health wise & continue to lose weight  and feel healthier.
- Find the right work schedule and work on prioritizing tasks each day.
-  Develop a blog schedule that works and allows me to post quality content.
- Dedicate myself to a devotional, spending time in the Word and becoming more involved in church.
- Develop a clear vision of the wife, daughter, family member, friend, employee and person  I want to be and figure out what I can eliminate & what to focus on.

How do you balance everything?  Any tips or feedback on what I'm working on?
