Indianapolis

Jared and I snuck in a little weekend getaway over Labor Day weekend to Indianapolis! Honestly, I was excited to get away for the weekend with my husband and for the football game we were going to but I wasn't that enthused about Indianapolis itself.  I don't even know why?  I just didn't think it would be that cool of a city.  I was SO wrong.  We both LOVED Indy!

I took a half day Friday and we headed up!  We drove through the Harvey rain most of the way but by the time we arrived there was no more rain in sight!  We checked into our hotel, the Westin, and I would highly recommend it.  It was in the perfect downtown location where we could walk to anything plus we could see Lucas Oil Stadium out the window.

Since we arrived decently late, we drove up to the Keystone Mall to grab dinner at P.F. Chang's and took a quick stroll through the mall.  I loved it!  Crate & Barrel in person was even better than I expected!  I wish we had been able to look around some more but the mall was closing and we were exhausted.

Saturday we slept in a little & then headed out to explore downtown Indy!

We went to the circle downtown which was so pretty!

A much needed getaway with this guy!

We really couldn't get over how pretty and nice it was downtown.  After the rainy and nasty day before, it was the perfect day to walk around and explore!

We were blown away with how nice the area was with all of the government buildings. There were statues, water displays and more and it felt like a government campus rather than part of downtown.

We saw the firefighters & police officers memorial which was so serene and beautiful.  I loved seeing all the memorials around downtown.  I will say Indianapolis does an amazing job of keeping the downtown area clean and easy to explore and enjoy.

This was my favorite area downtown! You could rent paddle boats & kayaks and there was a great path on both sides people were using to run, bike, and take family walks!  There were also several memorials, museums and parks in this area.  We absolutely loved downtown Indy!

After exploring downtown, we drove up to Zionsville and Carmel!  We loved both and want to go back for another visit to spend more time in both of those cities.  All the roundabouts made us a little dizzy but the towns were so beautiful, clean and had lots of fun things to do!  We grabbed a quick treat and headed back downtown to get ready for dinner & the game.

We grabbed a quick dinner at a sports bar across the street from our hotel and then headed to UL vs Purdue at Lucas Oil Stadium!

The stadium was really nice but honestly after experiencing AT&T in Dallas it didn't compare.  It was a nice facility but difficult to navigate and they only had like 2 attendants letting people in all around so it took forever for everyone to get inside.

The game was hard fought and UL made a lot of silly mistakes but thankfully they pulled off a victory in the end!!

Two happy Cardinal fans :)

We didn't get back to our hotel until late so we crashed and slept in a little on Sunday before heading back to Kentucky.  We had such a good time in Indy & enjoyed some much needed time together!  Little weekend getaways are our favorite :)
